EFCC

In a decisive move to curb the escalating food insecurity, the EFCC’s Maiduguri Zonal Command on Tuesday said its arrested 21 trucks laden with concealed food items, thwarting an attempt to smuggle essential goods out of Nigeria.
The EFCC who discovered this on its X handle on Tuesday, said that the trucks were loaded with food and non-food items and were heading towards N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central African Republic and Cameroon.
The commission explained that, the sting operation, conducted along the strategic Kalabiri/Gamboru Ngala and Bama roads in Borno State, revealed food items cleverly hidden within the trucks.

The commission added that the vigilant efforts of the EFCC operatives ensured the detection of these goods, which were otherwise set to bypass security checks unnoticed.
“Investigation showed food items cleverly concealed in the trucks that would have gone undetected but for the eagle-eyed vigilance of operatives of the Commission.”
“Further checks showed that the Waybills covering the goods carried by trucks indicated their destinations as N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central Africa Republic and Cameroon respectively.”
“The arrest of the trucks is expected to stem the tide of food insecurity occasioned by unscrupulous antics of smugglers across the country.”

The EFCC however said that the individuals apprehended in connection with the smuggling are currently undergoing profiling and will face legal proceedings upon the completion of the investigation.
