Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has emphasized the importance of strengthening inter-agency collaboration to ensure effective policy implementation and alignment with national and global sustainability goals.
She made this call at the 2025 Management Retreat organized by the Ministry of Environment in Abeokuta, with the theme “Streamlining Policy Implementation Objective and Goals in Environmental Governance.”
The Deputy Governor urged the Ministry of Environment and its sister agencies, Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), to critically assess their progress and identify areas for improvement. She encouraged them to develop innovative solutions to address environmental challenges.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele noted that the retreat was a crucial step towards shaping the future of environmental governance in the state. She encouraged the management to reaffirm their commitment to excellence, accountability, and sustainability in environmental management.
The Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, called on the management and staff of the Ministry to ensure continuous environmental safety and social services to the people of the State.
Mr. Oyeneye explained that Governor Dapo Abiodun had given more to the State civil Service and much was expected from them in return. He urged the civil servants to ensure good mastery of the Public Service Rules that guide the service.
The Commissioner of Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, admonished the management of the Ministry to maintain good efforts towards effectiveness and efficiency. He highlighted the Ministry’s achievements, including a 75% success rate in industries and facilities within the state.
Dr. Oresanya also announced that the Ministry generated 110% revenue in 2004, compared to 84% achievement recorded in 2023 for OGEPA. He promised to maintain sustainable initiatives and prevent environmental pollution through periodical monitoring.
The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Sam Oyeleye, emphasized the importance of continuous environmental safety in handling and disposing hazardous materials. He announced that the Ministry and its agencies would collaborate with partners such as GIZ, NESRIEA, UNIDO, and Wecyclers Organisation.
The Special Advisers to the Governor appreciated the Governor’s efforts in maintaining Ogun State as the gateway state. They announced plans to partner with Wecyclers Organization to promote recycling and job creation.
In his lecture, Professor Dele Odunlami, Dean of Social Faculty, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), emphasized the importance of streamlining policy implementation objectives and goals in environmental governance. He highlighted the key environmental challenges in Ogun State, including climate change, pollution, waste management, deforestation, poor sanitation, and flooding.
