The Ogun State Government announced plans to establish modern ranching facilities to improve meat production and processing in the state last week stating that this move is expected to boost the state’s agricultural sector and provide a more hygienic and organized meat supply chain.

According to Governor Dapo Abiodun, the new facilities will enable the government to rear, fatten, slaughter, and process meat in a more efficient and sanitary manner not only to improve the quality of meat available in the state but also create job opportunities for residents.
The governor revealed that the state currently slaughters around 9,000 to 10,000 cattle daily at Kara Cattle Market, primarily for consumption in Lagos markets though these processes are often unhygienic and disorganized, posing health risks to consumers.
To address these concerns, the state government has decided to establish modern ranching facilities that will provide a more streamlined and sanitary meat supply chain which will be equipped with modern equipment and technology to ensure efficient and hygienic meat production.
The establishment of these facilities is expected to create job opportunities for residents, particularly in the agricultural sector. The project will also provide technical services and support to local farmers, including extension services and acting as an off-taker for their produce.
