Gas leakage: Ogun govt confirms incident as 30 Ogun students, teacher hospitalised 

No fewer than 30 students and one teacher of Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State on Wednesday hospitalised following a gas leakage.
The Tracker gathered that a gaseous substance spread across the school premises, shortly after the assembly session making it difficult for many students and staff to breathe.
The incident, it was learnt led to several students collapsing, with over 30 students and a teacher rushed to Ijebu Ode General Hospital for treatment.
The Vice Principal, Mrs. Adeola Borogun, revealed that a strange chemical smell was perceived within the school premises, which immediately prompted an emergency response.
She said, “Several students began vomiting and fainting, forcing the school management to call for ambulances from the State General Hospital, Ijebu Ode.”
Confirming the incident, the  Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya,  dismissed speculation that it was an explosion in the school premises, noting that investigation is ongoing to find out the actual cause of the incident.
He said “No, there is no explosion anywhere.   It’s a gas leakage from somewhere. Some say it was from the school laboratory, but some say it must have been from somewhere around the community”.
Oresanya stated “We are bringing a gas analyzer there now to analyze the type of gas and the concentration zone. So, that will give us the exact cause”.
He added that the 30 students brought to the hospital are now in stable condition
The Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu has since visited the hospital.
While speaking to newsmen, Alebiosu said the situation was calm and under control, assuring parents and residents that a full investigation would be carried out to uncover the cause of the incident.
