A group under the aegis of the Assembly of Patriots International has called on Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into alleged financial misappropriation in the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) few years back.
The group also indicted the former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of OGWAMA, Mr. Abayomi Hunye.
The coordinator of the group, Kazeem Soliu while speaking at a press conference on Friday held at Ogun NUJ Secretariat, Iwe-Iroyin Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, the state capital, disclosed that a petition had been submitted to ICPC by the Democratic Integrity Forum on June 18, 2026.
He said the petition seeks a thorough investigation into allegations of abuse of office, diversion of public funds, unlawful enrichment, conflict of interest, nepotism, and other alleged corrupt practices during Hunye’s tenure as head of OGWAMA.
Solid revealed that while serving as Managing Director of the agency, Hunye was entrusted with the responsibility of managing public resources in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
The group alleged that contracts and procurement opportunities under the agency were awarded to companies and business entities allegedly linked to members of the former MD and close associates without adherence to due process and established procurement regulations.
Among the allegations listed by the group are abuse of office, conflict of interest, violation of procurement laws, unlawful enrichment, diversion of public funds, and money laundering.
Soliu further claimed that preliminary information available to the petitioners suggested that public funds exceeding N2 billion may have been diverted through a network of accounts and corporate entities allegedly linked to the former OGWAMA boss and members of his immediate family.
The group also alleged that assets and properties acquired by the former official appeared disproportionate to his known sources of income as a public servant, saying a forensic review of banking records, procurement documents, contract awards, payment schedules, and related financial transactions would help determine the authenticity of the allegations.
Soliu noted that concerns about Hunye’s conduct had reportedly been raised previously by members of the Ogun State Waste Management Board and other stakeholders, leading to his removal from office by the state government, arguing that administrative action alone was insufficient and called for a full criminal and financial investigation.
He said “As sons and daughters of Ogun state, we are concerned that if truly Mr. Abayomi Hunye abused the powers of his office by orchestrating and facilitating the award of contracts and procurement transactions to companies and business entities directly or indirectly owned, controlled, or beneficially linked to his wife[s], children, and close associates, without adherence to due process and established procurement laws. Then the relevant anti- graft agencies should fully investigate the allegations”.
“We are concerned that individuals given opportunity to serve our dear State continue to exploit the privilege for their selfish interests. They acquire properties, procure expensive vehicles that are purely beyond their income bracket. We have decided to commence our own independent investigation to determine the extent of abuse if any. We will visit Tube, apply and review his financial status before he was appointed as the MD of OGWAMA, we will check every company linked to him directly or indirectly”.
