Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced a N2.25 billion investment in aquaculture to boost food security, create jobs, and promote sustainable livelihood at the official flag off ceremony of Fish Harvest at Ijoko Ota in the Ado Odo Ota local government area of the state.
According to him, the investment, supported by the World Bank and OGSTEP, has benefited over 3,400 fish farmers across the state overtime, with each receiving 72 bags of high-quality feed at a subsidized cost.
Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele at the event, emphasized that agriculture is a serious economic enterprise and that his administration is committed to scaling the cluster model across the state.
He also urged the Ministry of Agriculture to fast-track the development of a proposed Processing Zone to increase value and reduce post-harvest losses.
Other speakers at the event, including the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, and the Project Coordinator OGSTEP, Mrs. Mosun Owo-Odusi, highlighted the impact of the program on farmers and the state’s economy. The Olota of Ota and other traditional leaders commended the state government for its strides in agriculture and good governance.
The event featured calls for more government support, including building a processing zone and fixing roads to enable farmers to convey their produce to the market.
