The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ogun 1 Area Command, Idiroko, recently decorated over 50 newly promoted officers and men who excelled in the last promotional examinations conducted by the Service’s Commission (NCSSC) ¹. The decoration exercise took place at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Promotions and Decorations
During the ceremony, 16 personnel were promoted from Superintendent of Customs (SC) to Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC), while two officers were elevated from Deputy Superintendent of Customs (DSC) to Superintendent of Customs (SC) ¹ ² ³. Customs Area Controller (CAC) Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu congratulated the promoted officers, attributing their success to dedication and outstanding performance.
Charge to Newly Promoted Officers
Shuaibu charged the newly promoted officers to be exemplary, remain dedicated, and continually seek knowledge in their new roles. He emphasized that promotion comes with new challenges, requiring continuous learning and adaptability ¹. Shuaibu urged the officers to influence and inspire others to excel while in service.

The CAC reminded the promoted officers that their elevation is a testament to their past achievements and an encouragement to do more.
He stressed the immense trust placed in them by the Service and the nation, urging them to uphold the principles of the Nigeria Customs Service ¹.

Shuaibu solicited cooperation from members of the public in providing timely and credible information to combat smuggling and economic crimes. He reassured that the command will not relent in its war against smuggling to ensure national security ¹.
Handover of Seized Contraband
In a related development, the Ogun 1 Area Command handed over 1,625 parcels of Cannabis Sativa to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The command also confiscated 2,002 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 6,180 units of cutlasses, and 6,375 liters of petroleum within 27 days of the new year ¹.
2024 Scorecard
Comptroller Shuaibu presented the command’s 2024 scorecard, highlighting seizures worth N1,267,504,035. The seizures included 16,712 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 139,881 liters of petroleum, 940 rounds of live ammunition, and other contrabands ¹.
Shuaibu reiterated the command’s commitment to combating smuggling activities, protecting the economy, and safeguarding societal well-being. He acknowledged the dedication of officers and solicited public cooperation in the fight against smuggling ¹.
