Ogun’s Gateway Airport Rises Faster Than Expected, Wows Lagos Delegation

The Gateway International Airport in Ogun State is taking shape at a pace that has surprised even its closest observers. A visiting delegation from the Lagos State Civil Service, who toured the site last week, described the progress as “remarkable” and far ahead of schedule.

Led by the Lagos State Head of Service, the team was received by Ogun State officials including the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, and Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya. Aviation consultant to the governor, Capt. Dapo Olumide, conducted the visitors around the fast-developing project.

The delegation, in Ogun for a leadership programme at the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance, noted that the airport’s pace of development reflects Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ambition to position Ogun as a major economic hub.

They emphasized that when completed, the facility will ease the burden on Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport while unlocking trade, investment, and tourism opportunities across the South-West.

The visitors also toured the newly renovated Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, praising it as a cultural gem with the potential to boost tourism and complement the state’s growing infrastructure profile.

With the Gateway International Airport progressing faster than many expected, it is already being seen as one of Governor Abiodun’s most defining legacy projects.
