The Remo Matters Diaspora Coalition (RMDC) has lauded the Remo Committee on State Creation for its diligent handling of the task assigned to them.
In a press statement, RMDC praised the committee for producing a meticulously crafted 66-page document, commending both its aesthetic presentation and the depth of its content. The report, according to RMDC, strongly emphasizes the preservation of the identity and legitimate interests of the Remo Kingdom.
The coalition stated: “The submission of the 66-page memorandum proposing the creation of Remo-Ijebu State, with Sagamu as the proposed capital, is a testament to the commitment, wisdom, and determination of the Akarigbo-in-Council, along with other Royal Fathers and elders across Remoland.”

On behalf of the Remo Matters Diaspora Coalition (RMDC), we extend our deep appreciation to the Remo Committee on State Creation, initiated by His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CON, LLB, BL, LLM, FCA, FBR (Torungbuwa II), Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland. The committee has delivered a comprehensive and well-structured document that effectively addresses the assignment given to them.
The document is not only aesthetically presented but also rich in content, reflecting a keen emphasis on preserving the identity and legitimate interests of the Remo Kingdom. It seeks to foster unity between the Remos and the Ijebus in their ongoing quest for a new state.
The 66-page memorandum, proposing the creation of Remo-Ijebu State with Sagamu as the capital, exemplifies the commitment and wisdom of the Akarigbo-in-Council, alongside other Royal Fathers and elders. The submission reflects the dedication of committee members who have worked tirelessly to safeguard Remo’s heritage and interests.
Following a thorough review of the memorandum, which was formally presented to the Akarigbo in the presence of committee members, Royal Fathers, youth representatives, media personnel, and other key stakeholders, we commend the committee’s passion for advancing the best interests of Remoland. We are confident that the proposals set forth in the memorandum genuinely represent our collective aspirations.
The memorandum instills a strong sense of belonging and inspires great hope for the future of the proposed state. It assures Remo’s sons and daughters—both at home and in the diaspora—that their interests are well represented and safeguarded.
We extend our profound gratitude to our revered monarch, HRM Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CON, whose wisdom and foresight continue to guide Remoland towards prosperity. We also commend the Royal Fathers across Remoland for their pivotal role in securing a future that honors the struggles of our forebears while laying a solid foundation for generations to come. Their collective endorsement of the memorandum, already submitted to the National Assembly, is a historic milestone in positioning Remo’s identity and interests in the proposed new state.
Furthermore, we deeply appreciate the dedication and efforts of the committee, chaired by Aare Kola Oyefeso, along with its members, who have worked extensively to ensure Remo’s rightful place in history is recognized.
Key Aspects of RMDC’s Endorsement
As the Remo Matters Diaspora Coalition (RMDC), we align ourselves fully with the proposals outlined in the memorandum, emphasizing the following priorities:
- Recognition of Remo’s distinct identity within the proposed new state structure.
- Fair and equitable naming of the new state as Remo-Ijebu State.
- Recommendation of Sagamu as the state capital, given its strategic connectivity to neighboring states and West African countries, as well as its economic and infrastructural viability.
- Call for additional Local Government Councils within Remoland to reflect its growing population and economic contributions to the development of the proposed state.
The memorandum promotes unity, fairness, and collaboration while preserving the unique historical and cultural identity of Remoland. It serves as a model for mutual respect and cooperation between the Remo and Ijebu people.
Call for Unification of Efforts
As we work towards the long-anticipated independence of Ogun East (formerly Ijebu Province) through the creation of a new state, we express concern over the absence of a unified document developed jointly by both Remo and Ijebu representatives. The fact that the Ijebus have yet to submit their proposals is a cause for concern.
We, therefore, call upon leaders, elders, and key stakeholders from both Remoland and Ijebuland to come together and establish common ground that will facilitate the realization of this historic vision. As Lao Tzu once said, “A journey of a thousand years begins with a single step.”
RMDC’s Appeal to Key Stakeholders
As an advocacy group representing the interests of the Remo people in the diaspora, RMDC urges:
- The National Assembly, the Federal Government, and all stakeholders to prioritize fairness and equity in the final deliberations on the state creation process.
- Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel to support the aspirations of the Remo people, ensuring that history remembers them favorably for their stance during this pivotal moment.
- Political and traditional leaders to champion Remo’s cause, aligning with the well-documented positions put forward by our elders and revered monarch.
We continue to pray for wisdom for our Royal Fathers as they lead and protect the future of Remoland. We also urge all stakeholders to rally behind a vision that ensures fair representation, equity, and sustainable progress for the entire proposed state.
A Defining Moment in History
As descendants of the Iremo Quarters of Ile-Ife, this is a crucial moment in our history. We must ensure that Remoland is not marginalized in the agitation for a new state out of the former Ijebu Province, now the Ogun-East Senatorial District of present-day Ogun State.
We also hope that our Ijebu brethren will demonstrate understanding and work towards a mutually beneficial consensus. With faith in God, we remain steadfast in our commitment to preserving our identity, protecting our interests, and securing a brighter future for generations to come.
