The chairman, Civil Service Commission, Engr. Tokunbo Odebunmi, while delivering his welcome address at a one day Orientation Course organized for the newly recruited senior and junior officers at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta last week, charged them to ensure that diligence is added to their service delivery in their respective Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs)
Engr. Odebunmi said the training was part of the schedule of the commission to equip new officers with necessary requisites needed to enable them implement government’s policies and programmes towards achieving its goals.
He admonished the officers to be good ambassadors by being dedicated in the discharge of their statutory duties to the state and the general public, adding that they must be conversant with public service rules and regulations, financial regulations, among other books guiding the Civil Service operation.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Roseline Jacobs said the orientation training was meant to educate and enlighten the newly recruited officers on their day-to-day activities for effective service delivery, enjoining them to be decent in their dressing.
She lauded the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for approving the recruitment into the Civil Service, which cut across Information/ Public Relations Officers, Confidential Secretaries, Data Processing Officers, Messengers, Clerical Officers, among others.
In his presentation, a resource person, Director, Administration and Supplies, Mr. Sakiru Bakare, who spoke on ‘’Understanding Office Structure and Core Functions of the Civil Service Commission’’, said the Commission was saddled with the responsibility of appointing persons to offices in the state Civil Service to maintain comprehensive and up-to-date personnel records of the Civil Servants, among others.
His counterpart in Promotion and Discipline, Mr. Olajide Oladipupo, talked about ‘’Work Ethics and Office Communication’’, stating that ethics were essential in the Civil Service because it regulates moral norms, value and conduct of workers.
Two of the participants, Mr. Ibrahim Akinbode, an Information/Public Relations Officer and Miss Racheal Ajayi, a Confidential Secretary, appreciated the Governor Abiodun for giving them the opportunity to serve the state and promised to discharge their duties as expected.
