Ijebu-Ife Celebrates Her Illustrious Son: Rear Admiral Kolawole Oguntuga

Ijebu-Ife was alive with pride and celebration on Saturday as the town honored one of its most distinguished sons, Rear Admiral Kolawole Olumide Oguntuga, for his exceptional service and rise to a high rank in the Nigerian Navy.

The grand reception, held in his hometown, brought together a host of dignitaries, traditional rulers, and political leaders who gathered to recognize and celebrate his remarkable achievements.

 

The event was attended by a number of influential figures, including the Governor of Ogun State, represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Oyedele-Salako, Hon. Tokunbo Talabi, the state’s Secretary to the Government, Chief Bisi Akande, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, and a number of prominent Ijebu royal fathers.

 

Also present were Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, the former Minister of State for Health, Hon. Damilare Kehinde, the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, along with his Vice, Hon. (Mrs.) Adetutu Oyesanya, Hon. Folorunsho Badejo, Chairman of Ijebu North-East Local Government, Hon. Adetoye, Chairman of Ijebu Waterside, Otunba Akinsanya, and several other distinguished guests.

 

During the keynote address, Deputy Governor Noimot Oyedele-Salako, who spoke on behalf of the governor, praised Rear Admiral Oguntuga for his unwavering dedication and service to the Nigerian Navy and the nation.

“Rear Admiral Kolawole Oguntuga has played an indispensable role in the Nigerian Navy, displaying an unwavering commitment to duty, integrity, and a sense of responsibility. His career serves as an inspiration to others, and today we stand together in celebration of his monumental achievements,” the Deputy Governor said.

The Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife, Oba Adesesan Oguntayo, who was the chief host of the event, expressed his immense joy in welcoming guests to the memorable occasion. The monarch emphasized that the celebration was not only a reflection of the greatness of Rear Admiral Oguntuga but also a collective triumph for the entire community of Ijebu-Ife.

 

“Today, we celebrate an extraordinary accomplishment—one that no other son or daughter of Ijebu-Ife has attained before. Rear Admiral Oguntuga’s rise to prominence in the Nigerian Navy is a victory for all of us. It is a testament to his exceptional qualities and a shining example for the younger generation. With hard work, determination, and perseverance, great heights can be reached,” the Ajalorun said.

 

 

In his speech, Rear Admiral Oguntuga expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming honor bestowed upon him by his community. He fondly reflected on his childhood experiences, recalling the respect and admiration the people of Ijebu-Ife had shown to his late father, and he was deeply moved to receive the same level of warmth and appreciation.

“I have always witnessed the love and recognition the people of Ijebu-Ife had for my late father. Today, I am privileged to experience the same love and honor. This celebration will forever remain in my heart, and I promise to continue supporting and cherishing our community,” Rear Admiral Oguntuga said.

He also took the opportunity to commend the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife for his visionary leadership and his contributions to the growth and development of Ijebu-Ife.

 

Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, in his remarks, highlighted the tremendous significance of Rear Admiral Oguntuga’s achievements, noting that rising through the ranks of the military is no small feat and requires immense resilience, discipline, and a deep sense of duty.

 

 

“The path to success in the military is arduous and requires great dedication. Today, we thank God for the remarkable life and career of this outstanding son of Ijebu-Ife. His service to the nation is an inspiration to us all,” the senator said.

 

The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, also shared his personal experience with Rear Admiral Oguntuga, describing him as a humble and diligent individual. The monarch recalled their time together in the United States, where Rear Admiral Oguntuga had served as a dependable protocol officer in the church they attended.

“I had the privilege of meeting Kolawole Oguntuga during my time in the United States, where he worked diligently as a protocol officer in the church. Despite his prestigious position in Nigeria, he carried out his duties with remarkable humility. Now, as a king, I stand here to celebrate his incredible accomplishments and wish him even greater success in the years to come,” the Soun of Ogbomoso said.

The grand reception was not just a celebration of one individual’s success, but a tribute to the values of dedication, discipline, and service to the nation. It was a moment for the entire community of Ijebu-Ife to come together and express their pride in one of their finest sons. The event reaffirmed the town’s long-standing legacy of excellence and its commitment to contributing to the development of the nation.
