The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has successfully graduated the second set of students from its Caregiver Academy, reaffirming its commitment to addressing healthcare challenges and enhancing the quality of patient care in Nigeria.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held on March 5, 2025, at the MRC Auditorium, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Dr. Oluwatoni Adeyemi, congratulated the 137 graduates on their achievements. He emphasized that the establishment of the Caregiver Academy was a strategic initiative to bolster the healthcare workforce in response to the growing shortage of healthcare providers in Lagos State.
The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, commended the graduates and their families for their dedication and support. He described the event as a significant milestone in LASUTH’s history and praised the academy’s success in producing highly trained caregivers. He highlighted that the programme, which had exceeded expectations in popularity, was meticulously designed to uphold excellence in training.
“One of the unique attributes of this programme is its international certification from John Academy in the United Kingdom, in addition to the LASUTH certificate. This global recognition ensures that our graduates are equipped with qualifications to work anywhere in the world,” Fabamwo stated.
In her goodwill message, the Chairman of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, lauded LASUTH’s dedication to empowering caregivers, acknowledging them as the backbone of the healthcare system. She also commended Prof. Fabamwo for his visionary leadership in establishing multiple training schools within LASUTH, reinforcing its status as Nigeria’s leading tertiary healthcare institution.
Meanwhile, the best-graduating student, Oghenekaro Helen Uvietobore, in her valedictory speech, expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the programme. She specifically appreciated Prof. Fabamwo for his mentorship and support, describing the programme as well-structured and impactful.
The graduation ceremony was attended by key figures in the healthcare sector, further underscoring the importance of LASUTH’s commitment to training skilled caregivers to meet the growing demands of the industry.
