The Association of Facility Management Practitioners of Nigeria (AFMPN) has reinforced its commitment to advancing professional facility management and sustainable public infrastructure through a series of strategic courtesy visits to key Lagos State government agencies.
Led by AFMPN President, Dr. Olumide Aina, the Association’s leadership visited the Lagos State Infrastructure and Asset Management Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), and the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) as part of ongoing efforts to deepen collaboration between facility management professionals and public institutions.
At LASIMRA’s headquarters in Ikeja, the AFMPN delegation was received by a director representing the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Prince Gbolahan Oyekanmi Elegushi, alongside the agency’s management team.
Discussions focused on regulatory alignment, infrastructure protection, and the role of professional facility management in supporting the sustainable management of public assets. LASIMRA highlighted its mandate covering telecommunications infrastructure, gas pipelines, fibre-optic networks, right-of-way management, underground utilities, infrastructure auditing, and pavement protection, while also showcasing innovative prefabricated manholes designed to safeguard underground assets in future developments.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Olumide Aina said the collaboration reflects a shared vision for better infrastructure stewardship.
“Facility management goes beyond maintaining buildings; it is about managing infrastructure assets throughout their lifecycle. By aligning professional facility management practices with regulatory frameworks such as those of LASIMRA, we can build more resilient, efficient and sustainable public infrastructure.”
He noted that AFMPN’s promotion of the ISO 41001 Facility Management System provides a globally recognised framework that complements government efforts in infrastructure governance and asset management.
The engagement also opened discussions on capacity development, with LASIMRA expressing interest in AFMPN Academy programmes and the University of Lagos Master’s programme in Facility Management.
The Association continued its engagement with another courtesy visit to the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), where the delegation was received by the General Manager, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, and members of the management team.
The meeting built on an existing relationship between both organisations, focusing on strengthening advocacy, public orientation and professional collaboration on wastewater management across the built environment.
Among the key outcomes was LSWMO’s commitment to offer discounted participation for AFMPN members at its planned September 2026 workshop, support for AFMPN’s school community service initiative on Lagos Island, and participation in future technical sessions to educate facility management professionals on wastewater compliance and industry best practices.
According to Dr. Aina, effective wastewater management is an essential component of sustainable facility management.
“Public health, environmental sustainability and infrastructure resilience all depend on sound facility management practices. Partnerships with agencies like LSWMO enable us to strengthen professional knowledge while contributing meaningfully to healthier and more sustainable communities.”
AFMPN also concluded a courtesy visit to the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), where discussions centred on strengthening collaboration within Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure.
The agency’s management welcomed the proposed partnership and expressed interest in enrolling staff in AFMPN Academy programmes while confirming plans to participate in the Association’s forthcoming Conference in Abeokuta.
Commending the outcome of the engagements, Dr. Aina described the visits as an important step towards institutionalising facility management across critical sectors of government.
“These engagements demonstrate growing recognition of facility management as a strategic profession that supports infrastructure performance, regulatory compliance, healthcare delivery and environmental sustainability. We look forward to translating these conversations into impactful collaborations that benefit both government institutions and the public.”
AFMPN also acknowledged the contributions of members of its delegation, including Titilayo Bolaji, Local Organising Committee Chairman and HSE Community Curator, Amirah Hassan, and other council members, for supporting the Association’s advocacy efforts.
The series of engagements underscores AFMPN’s ongoing strategy to build stronger partnerships with policymakers, regulators and public institutions while promoting international best practices in facility management, capacity development and sustainable asset stewardship across Nigeria.
