The Coalition of Progressive Youths (COPY) has endorsed the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Ajibola Basiru, for re-election, citing his administrative competence, commitment to party unity, and contributions to the party’s growth.
In a statement issued by its National President, Sen. Ekundina Segun Elvis, the group described Basiru as “a pillar of competence, consistency, and courage” whose leadership has strengthened the internal structure of the ruling party.
According to the statement, the endorsement comes at a critical time when the APC requires stability and experienced leadership to sustain its progress and prepare for future political engagements.
COPY noted that since assuming office as National Secretary, Basiru has demonstrated “exceptional administrative capacity,” ensuring effective coordination of party activities across all levels.
The group highlighted several achievements of the APC scribe, including efforts to strengthen internal party democracy, improve institutional discipline, and enhance transparency within the party’s secretariat.
“Barrister Basiru has played a crucial role in organizing credible party processes, fostering inclusiveness, and ensuring that the voices of stakeholders are heard and respected,” the statement read.
It also credited him with promoting unity within the party through dialogue and reconciliation, noting that his interventions have helped resolve internal disputes and maintain cohesion among members.
The group further acknowledged his strategic role in supporting the party’s electoral successes, describing his contributions to policy coordination and election preparedness as significant in reinforcing APC’s position in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Reflecting on his past experience, COPY pointed out that Basiru previously served as Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, where he earned recognition for legislative excellence, grassroots engagement, and advocacy for youth inclusion.
The statement added that his background in law and governance has made him a dependable figure in party administration and a key driver of institutional progress within the APC.
On youth development, the coalition commended Basiru for consistently supporting initiatives that promote youth participation in politics, describing him as a leader who remains accessible and receptive to progressive ideas.
The group stressed that continuity in leadership is essential to sustaining ongoing reforms within the party, warning against any disruption that could affect its stability and growth.
“Re-electing Barrister Ajibola Basiru will sustain institutional progress, strengthen party unity, deepen youth inclusion, and preserve the integrity of party processes,” the statement added.
COPY therefore called on party stakeholders, delegates, and leaders across the country to support Basiru’s re-election bid.
“This is not just a choice—it is a commitment to continuity, competence, and collective progress,” the group stated.
