EFCC Arraigns Nine Chinese Nationals for Alleged Cyber-Terrorism, Internet Fraud in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a significant step in combating cyber crime and terrorism by arraigning nine Chinese nationals and a company, Genting International Co. Ltd., before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The defendants, Su Dong Fu, Zheng Xian Tao, Wang Shi Long, Pan Cai Qi, Ting Liao, Fan Jia, Feng Li Cani, Lu Yong Yao, and Yang Chen Cheng, are accused of being part of a syndicate involved in cryptocurrency investment and romance fraud. They were arrested on December 10, 2024, during a surprise operation dubbed “Eagle Flush Operation” .
The charges against them include alleged cyber crimes, cyber-terrorism, possession of documents containing false pretenses, and identity theft. One of the counts specifically alleges that Zheng Xian Tao and Genting International Co. Limited willfully accessed computer systems to destabilize and destroy Nigeria’s economy and social structure.
All the defendants pleaded “not guilty” to the charges. In response, prosecution counsel M.K. Bashir requested trial dates and that the defendants be remanded in the correctional centre. Justice C.J. Aneke adjourned the matter until February 21 and March 7, 2025, for trial and remanded the defendants at the Ikoyi Correctional Center.
This development highlights the EFCC’s efforts to tackle cyber crime and terrorism in Nigeria. The commission’s Lagos Zonal Directorate has been actively working to combat these issues, and this arraignment is a significant step forward.
The EFCC’s actions are also part of a broader effort to address the growing concern of cyber crime in Nigeria. The commission has been collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute individuals involved in these activities.
The arraignment of the nine Chinese nationals and Genting International Co. Ltd. serves as a warning to those involved in cyber crime and terrorism that they will be held accountable for their actions. It also demonstrates the EFCC’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s economy and social structure from these threats.
