FG Celebrates Super Falcons’ WAFCON Triumph, Calls Victory a Symbol of National Pride

The Federal Government on Monday warmly welcomed the victorious Super Falcons following their triumphant win at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Rabat, Morocco.

In a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government hailed the team’s achievement as more than just a sporting milestone—it was described as a powerful reflection of the “resilience, excellence, and indomitable Nigerian spirit.”

“The Super Falcons have, with unmatched skill, discipline, and unity, inscribed Nigeria’s name in gold on the continental stage. They have made the entire nation proud,” Idris stated.

Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government, the minister praised the players, coaches, and technical crew for their dedication and bravery throughout the tournament. “You have inspired a new generation of Nigerians and demonstrated the power of sports as a unifying and uplifting force,” he added.

Idris also reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to investing in sports development and athlete support, promising greater resources and opportunities to help Nigerian athletes excel on the global stage.

To honor the Super Falcons’ return, the government announced a ceremonial parade through Abuja—from the City Gate to Eagle Square—ending at the Presidential Villa, where the team will be officially received by President Tinubu.

“The Super Falcons have flown the Nigerian flag high and brought joy to millions of our citizens. Welcome home, champions of Africa,” the statement concluded.

The victory marks Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title, solidifying the Super Falcons’ status as the dominant force in African women’s football
