Group backs Gov Abiodun Senatorial ambition, emphasizes fairness

A political group, Sustainability of Ogun State and Dapo Abiodun Legacy Beyond 2027, has backed Governor Dapo Abiodun’s bid for the Ogun East senatorial ticket, but stressed that the race should ultimately be decided through a credible party primary between him and Senator Gbenga Daniel.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Friday by its Convener, Dr. Arabambi Abayomi, the group said no aspirant should attempt to dominate or pressure the All Progressives Congress consensus process, warning that such actions could undermine internal democracy.

The group cautioned against what it described as political blackmail, noting that giving in to threats or undue influence from any contender would erode party discipline and weaken the integrity of the process.

Emphasising fairness, Abayomi called for both Abiodun and Daniel to engage directly in the party primary as a true test of their popularity among party delegates.

“Rather than relying on endorsements or public rhetoric, both Governor Abiodun and Senator Daniel should allow their support base to be measured at the polls. Let the delegates decide who truly has the backing of the party,” he said.

He added that whichever of the two emerges victorious should receive the full support of the other and the party at large, describing this as the core principle of democracy and internal party cohesion.

The group expressed confidence that the APC would resolve its internal differences in Ogun East, urging stakeholders to prioritise unity, due process, and a transparent primary as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
