HIV Scare in Gombe as NSCDC Arrests 85-year-old Man with Multiple Partners

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Gombe State has arrested an 85-year-old man who allegedly infected several young girls with HIV through sexual intercourse.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Bello Mu’azu, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the Command’s activities for 2023.

He said the suspect, whose name was withheld, was found to be HIV positive along with his four wives after a medical examination.

He also said the suspect confessed to having sex with many young girls in the state, without using any protection or disclosing his status.

Mu’azu warned men in the state to be careful of their sexual partners and confirm their HIV status before engaging in any sexual relationship.

He said HIV is a serious health threat in Gombe State, as the prevalence rate was alarmingly high, and many people were unaware of their status or in their window period.

He also revealed that the Command faced serious challenges with some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that support same-sex relationships and marriage, a situation he said was against the law and the culture of the people.

He urged the public to report any suspicious or unlawful activities to the NSCDC or other security agencies for prompt action.
