The Ijebu-Remo Youth Progressive Organisation (IREYPO) has once again commended the unwavering commitment and leadership of Ijebu and Remo royal fathers in advocating for the creation of a new state from present-day Ogun State.
In a statement, the group reaffirmed the need for collective effort to achieve this long-standing aspiration. They urged all leaders within the Ijebu-Remo zone to remain united and avoid any divisive actions that could hinder progress.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists on Wednesday at Eskay Hotel, Sagamu, IREYPO convener Akogun Jamiu Alabi Olododo reiterated the organisation’s dedication to unity and its full support for the aspirations of Ijebu and Remo monarchs and leaders pushing for the new state.
Olododo emphasized IREYPO’s commitment to strengthening the bond among Ijebu and Remo indigenes, ensuring a solid foundation for future generations, particularly in the ongoing quest for state creation.
“Over the years, we have witnessed multiple attempts to achieve this goal. As this marks the fourth significant effort, one key lesson remains clear: unity is paramount. The success of this movement depends on our ability to speak with one voice, rising above individual and sectional interests,” he said.
He stressed the need for broader participation across the 33 towns of Remoland and 66 towns of Ijebuland, emphasizing that IREYPO represents both Ijebu and Remo interests. However, instead of focusing on numbers, he highlighted the importance of selecting key leaders who genuinely represent their communities.
Addressing concerns about integrating other youth groups, Olododo clarified that there is no division between IREYPO and the Sagamu Youth Forum (Sagamuites). “While the Sagamu Youth Forum focuses on Remo youths, IREYPO remains committed to uniting both Ijebu and Remo to ensure our collective voice remains strong,” he stated.
He also praised the recent press conference organized by the Sagamu Youth Forum, describing it as a significant step in advancing the shared vision of progress.
He acknowledged the contributions of various stakeholders and expressed confidence that these collective efforts would drive the movement forward.
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Oluseyi Olubanjo who also spoke at the gathering, reaffirmed IREYPO’s mission to build bridges, foster unity, and ensure the realization of the shared aspirations of both Ijebu and Remo.
“The active participation of the youth in this movement is crucial to safeguarding the interests of future generations and reinforcing the role of young people in shaping our collective future,” he stated.
