Iyabo Obasanjo senatorial ambition receives major boost, Secures Ogun Central PDP Backing

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, the Ogun Central Central Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured the backing of the leadership of the party in the district for her Senate ambition, while declaring unwavering support for the governorship aspiration of the party’s standard-bearer, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement came during a strategic meeting between the former senator and key PDP leaders in Abeokuta on Friday, where discussions centred on strengthening party unity, consolidating structures and positioning the party for victory in the next election cycle.

The meeting also marked Senator Obasanjo’s formal reintegration into the PDP fold.

Speaking after the meeting, Senator Obasanjo expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded her by the party leadership, describing it as a demonstration of confidence in her aspiration to represent Ogun Central in the Senate.

The party leaders reaffirmed their confidence in the former senator, citing her wealth of legislative experience, commitment to public service and capacity to effectively represent the district at the National Assembly.

Senator Obasanjo also used the occasion to reaffirm her commitment to the PDP’s broader electoral agenda, pledging to work closely with Hon. Ladi Adebutu to ensure the party reclaims Ogun State in 2027.

“It was a pleasure to meet with the leaders of the Ogun Central PDP today. I am truly humbled and deeply appreciative of the warm welcome I have received upon my return to the party.

“I am honored to have their firm support as we move forward with my candidacy for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat. Together, we are committed to building a stronger future for our district.

“I am also fully prepared to work hand in hand with Hon. Ladi Adebutu as we strive toward his election as the next Governor of Ogun State. Forward together for a better Ogun State,” she stated.

The meeting could be described as a significant boost to the PDP’s efforts to strengthen internal cohesion and build a united front as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum across Ogun State.
