Ogun Government Prioritizes Statewide Sports Infrastructure Overhaul

The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the comprehensive development and revitalization of sports and sporting infrastructure across the state.

This assurance was given by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, during an inspection of the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.

Speaking with journalists after the facility tour, Hon. Isiaka emphasized that the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration is determined to transform the state’s sports sector without neglecting any other area of development.

“Our government is not prioritizing one sector at the expense of another. Having successfully hosted the National Sports Festival, attention is now focused on upgrading the numerous sports facilities spread across the state,” he stated.

The Commissioner noted that with Ogun State housing one of the highest numbers of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, it also boasts the largest concentration of young people in the country—making the grassroots development of sports a critical priority.

“This inspection is in line with the government’s agenda to ensure a complete overhaul and modernization of sports infrastructure. We are extending similar upgrades to the Gateway International Stadium in Sagamu and the Muda Lawal Stadium in Asero, among others,” he disclosed.

According to him, various sections of the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, including the swimming pool, basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts, will be fully renovated to meet national standards.

“Our aim is to ensure that all sporting facilities are functional and up to standard, in line with the government’s broader vision,” Hon. Isiaka added.

At the M.K.O. Abiola Sports Arena, the Commissioner also revealed that numerous proposals from private investors eager to collaborate with the state government were under consideration. He described the level of interest as “highly impressive” and affirmed that no facility will be left behind in the administration’s total sports development strategy.
