* Warns against hypertension, diabetes
The Association of Retired Principals of Secondary Schools of Nigeria, ARPSSON, Ogun State Chapter, has called for greater attention to the health and well-being of retired educators, particularly as they grow older.
The call was made during the association’s 2026 Annual State Congress held at Graceland Event Centre, Ayepe Road, Sagamu, Ogun State, with the theme, “Healthy Life in Retirement,” and the topic, “Ageing Realities with Special Emphasis on Hypertension and Diabetes.”
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Ogun State, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, was represented at the event by Mr Kola Erubami Abolaji.
Speaking at the congress, the President of the association, Comrade Segun Obadimu, appreciated the Ogun State Government for its support and contributions to the education sector. He also stressed the importance of promoting the welfare of retired principals and helping them maintain healthy lives after years of service.
Comrade segun said the congress provided an opportunity for retired school principals to discuss the challenges associated with ageing, particularly hypertension and diabetes, and the need for proper health management in retirement.
He however urged retired educators to pay attention to their health, go for regular medical check-ups and follow medical advice to reduce the risks associated with these conditions.
He also called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to grant them consequential increase in pension, saying what they currently received now can’t take care of their needs with the economy realities.
