Ogun So Safe Nabs Tricyclist

The So Safe Corps in Ota, Ogun State, had arrested a 21-year-old tricyclist, Ridwan Lukman, for allegedly raping a 14-year-old groundnut seller in the Gangan roundabout area of the town on Wednesday.

According to the So Safe Corps, Lukman, who hails from Akito in Oyo State and lives in Okede, Ota, confessed to forcefully penetrating the girl, who he lured into his tricycle after buying groundnut from her and her colleague.

Meanwhile, he denied having penetrations, but confessed to attempting same; while speaking with the news men.

“I bought groundnut from her and her colleague where I parked my Marwa and while I was attempting to pay her, I found out she was looking at me somehow. It then occurred to me that she may fancy me. So, I was trying to penetrate her when one man accosted us and asked what was happening. Thereafter, So Safe came and took me with them. I haven’t put my thing inside her yet”. He said.

The victim’s custodian, who is her uncle’s wife, was also arrested by the So Safe Corps for failing to report the incident and present the girl at the station as advised.

She claimed that she called a nurse to examine and treat the girl after she told her what happened.

However, a medical examination conducted by the So Safe Corps revealed that the girl was indeed raped, contrary to Lukman’s claim that he only attempted to do so but did not succeed.

The suspect will be transferred to the Police Area Command in Sango, Ota, for further investigation, while the victim will receive counselling and support to overcome the trauma, the corps said.
