The All Progressives Congress, APC on Saturday held its House of Representatives primaries across Ogun State.
In Abeokuta South Federal Constituency at federal house of representatives, the incumbent, Hon. Afolabi Afuape was declared winner of All Progressive Congress (APC) primary elections in the constituency.
Announcing the results at collation centres, Centenary Hall, Ake, Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, the returning officer, Oyesile Olusiji said, out of 13,847 total of votes, Afuape polled 12,633 votes to defeat his closest rival, Hon. Tolulope Philips, who polled 760 votes.
Speaking to journalists earlier before the announcement of the results, Hon. Tolulope Alleged Fake Voters, and lamented that, despite party members arrived as early as 10 a.m., no proper accreditation was conducted, while individuals from Wards 8 and 9 were allegedly allowed to queue and vote in Ward 7, declaring that, there was no election.
In his part, Afuape said the election was free and fair, arguing that, out of 15 Wards in the constituency, there was proper election at the other 14 Wards and it is not possible to deprive the ward it deserved right to participate in the process.
He acknowledged the fact that, it is a right of someone who loss in contest to kick against the process but there is need for synergy between all the aspirants to ensure victory for the party at the general elections.
“The allegation is not right. We deployed resources from Ward 1 to 16, so Ward 7 can be an exception. Even in my Ward, people queue behind me and there was no interruption in the process. This is a party that is peaceful. This is an internal arrangements, as we are going to face other parties, and we cannot continue to fight ourselves”, he said.
“If there is a list of Ward, there is tendency not to agree and not to be happy, but for me we still in APC United family. Let’s work together and deliver APC all the way”, he added.
Also, One of the aspirants, who stepped down for Afuape described the allegation has baseless, saying that, a single Ward, where Hon. Tolulope accused of manipulation cannot even win election for an aspirant.
“For you to join a political party, you need to aligned with ideology of the party. And if political party has it own structure, i as a loyalist of the structure, i believe we one people with one general motive to make Nigeria better.”
“In as much the leadership of the party notified us that, they have mede the consensus candidate, I comply with that, and step down for Hon. Afolabi Afuape, it means that, they want him to continue the good works he has been doing”.
“The thing of some people been aggrieved, they have the opportunity to come for direct primaries. We were both at Hon. Afuape’s Ward, and we also monitored the other Wards, in which there is video evidence of the primaries been done. I found it confusing that, the election was not take place. Even there was 15 Wards, and one Ward cannot a whole elections”.
Other aspirants participated in the election are Akeem Ademola, who polled 227 votes; Ayodeji Abolore with 215 votes and Lanre Edun with 12 votes.
The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Sen Shuaib Salisu who participated commended President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun for showing good leadership qualities in ensuring majority of the winners emerged through consensus.
A Chieftain of APC, Kehinde Ololade also hailed the conduct of the primaries.
