“The Reason Behind Awujale’s 2025 Ojude Oba Festival Absence: Festival Coordinator Speaks”

The Coordinator of the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival, Dr. Fassy Yusuff, has clarified the reason behind the absence of the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, from this year’s celebration, which took place on Sunday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

According to Dr. Yusuff, the revered monarch, aged 91, was recently discharged from a Lagos hospital and is currently recuperating at home. His absence, though deeply felt, was on the advice of his medical team to allow for a full recovery.

Speaking in response to public concern over the Awujale’s conspicuous absence, Yusuff assured the public that there is no cause for alarm, emphasizing that the monarch’s health is stable and that his non-attendance was purely precautionary.

For decades, Oba Adetona has been the central figure of the Ojude Oba festival, traditionally seated in regal dignity to receive homage from thousands of guests, dignitaries, and members of the Ijebu community. His absence at this year’s edition, therefore, sparked curiosity among attendees and well-wishers.

In his stead, the monarch was ably represented by his wife, Olori Kemi Adetona, who received guests on his behalf and conveyed his warm regards to the people.

Dr. Yusuff concluded by urging the public to disregard any unfounded speculations, reiterating that the Awujale is in good spirits and continues to remain closely connected to the affairs of his people.
