Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel Reaffirms Commitment to the Creation of Ijebu State at Ojude-Oba 2025

Amidst the vibrant celebrations, glamorous appearances, and warm reunions with old friends at the Ojude-Oba 2025 festival, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East, maintained his characteristic cheerful demeanor as he took a moment to address the much-discussed and long-anticipated creation of Ijebu State—a topic that remains high on the agenda.

Responding to questions from reporters, Senator Daniel reaffirmed his strong belief that the creation of Ijebu State is not only inevitable but long overdue. While he refrained from specifying an exact timeline, he assured the public that significant progress is being made behind the scenes.

“We are working very hard, and I have no doubt that we will ultimately achieve our objective,” he stated. “There is a broad consensus that Ijebu State should have been created long ago. It remains the only province from the old regional structure that has yet to be granted statehood.”

Senator Daniel further revealed that the matter is receiving serious attention at the highest levels of government. “The President is giving it careful consideration, and we are equally committed to pushing the process forward at the National Assembly. Though I cannot say exactly when, I am confident that a new state will eventually emerge from the old Ijebu Province.”

When asked about the concerns and aspirations of the Remo people regarding their inclusion and the preservation of their heritage, the senator responded with assurance and unity.

“We are united. I am Remo, and I am also Ijebu. I can speak with authority that we are working hand-in-hand,” he said. “That said, the Remo people have a legitimate right to self-determination and to seek meaningful representation in any new arrangement. I believe that, in due course, everything will align appropriately.”
