Tinubu Departs Brazil After Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Goodbye to Brazil

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Brazil for Abuja after a two-day state visit aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.

The presidential jet took off from Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at 12:57 p.m. (local time) on Wednesday. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, joined senior government officials at the airport alongside Brazil’s Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, Amb. Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, and Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, to bid farewell to the President. A brief departure ceremony included a guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas.

President Tinubu had arrived in Brasília on Monday, August 25, where he was received with full military honours at the Palácio do Planalto. During the visit, he held talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and other senior officials.

Both leaders oversaw the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in key sectors including aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture — areas the Tinubu administration considers critical to Nigeria’s growth and development agenda.

The visit was marked by diplomatic engagements and cultural exchange initiatives, underscoring Nigeria’s renewed push to strengthen global partnerships and expand opportunities for trade, technology transfer, and investment.
