Tinubu Meets Lula in Brasília: Renewing Afro-Brazilian Ties

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met Brazilian leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília, in a visit that highlighted not only trade and energy cooperation but also deep cultural ties.

Talks centered on agriculture, renewable energy, and boosting South–South partnerships. Nigeria looks to tap Brazil’s expertise in farming and biofuels, while Brazil seeks closer access to Africa’s largest market.

Beyond policy, the meeting carried strong symbolism. Millions of Brazilians trace their heritage to West Africa, especially Nigeria, making Tinubu’s visit feel like a reconnection of shared history as much as a diplomatic mission.

For both leaders, the encounter signaled a push for a stronger Global South voice in world affairs.
