Map of Kano State

Residents of CBN Quarters on Hadejia Road, Kano Metropolis were on Saturday thrown into despair following the unfortunate incident of the drowning of a 60-year-old man, Sabi’u Yusha’u Unguwa Uku, who slipped into an abandoned well and drowned.

The Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, made the tragedy known to newsmen late Saturday night.

According to him, the victim was driving a car belonging to the first wife of the Minister of Defence, explaining that after dropping off guests at a nearby house, he stepped out of the vehicle to urinate, unaware of the abandoned well and debris in the area.

Saminu pointed out that the cover of the well caved in leading to Uku slipping into the abandoned well thus resulting in his tragic death.

The PRO disclosed that the state fire service, led by Hassan Ahmad Muhammad, quickly responded to the emergency call and the rescue team arrived at the disaster scene within 15 minutes.

“Unfortunately, the victim who  was rescued unconscious was later pronounced dead on arrival at the Sir Sunusi Hospital.”

“The body was subsequently handed over to CPL Faruku Musa of Dakata Police Division for further investigation,” he said.
