In a showdown at Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara (Abidjan) leading up to the AFCON kick-off on January 13, 2023, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, led by the prolific Victor Osimhen, battled Equatorial Guinea to a 1-1 draw.

The intensity was evident from the start as the Super Eagles fiercely defended their ground. However, Equatorial Guinea’s Iban Salvador capitalized on a precise pass from Jose Machin, finding the net with a powerful shot at the 18th minute.

The unexpected setback spurred the Super Eagles into action, and at the 38th minute, Victor Osimhen, assisted by Lookman, leveled the score with a close-range header into an unguarded net.

Nigeria regained composure, orchestrating attacks and patiently waiting for strategic moments. Despite Moses Simon’s valiant attempt in the first half, the score remained tied.

The battle continued into the second half, with Moses Simon persistently striving to break the deadlock. As six additional minutes were granted, both teams sought a last-minute victory, but ultimately, the match concluded in a 1-1 draw, leaving fans in suspense as the AFCON loomed closer.
