The newly elected National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that victory in the 2027 general elections is already assured for the ruling party.
“We will expand beyond bounds. By God’s grace, I’m confident that 2027 is a done deal for the APC,” Yilwatda asserted during his inaugural address at the Muhammadu Buhari House, the party’s National Secretariat, following his swearing-in at Aso Villa.
Prof. Yilwatda, who now serves as the 7th National Chairman of the APC, was warmly received at the Secretariat at about 4:10 p.m. by enthusiastic staff and supporters, accompanied by members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
In his remarks to the NWC and Forum of State Chairmen, the chairman likened the party to a vehicle in need of skilled hands. “All of us here, especially the NWC members, are the mechanics — the party is the vehicle. We will fix it, drive it, and ensure it reaches the destination we desire,” he said.
“It’s a collective responsibility. Once we all commit ourselves to this task, APC will not only be strong but also become the pride and joy of the entire nation. That is my vision for this party under our joint leadership,” he added.
Yilwatda expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their continued support and emphasized the party’s openness to new members. “Our doors remain open. We are ready to welcome more governors, senators, National Assembly members, local government chairmen, and other leaders into the APC.”
The former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation pledged to reposition the APC as a model political institution, attracting more leaders from the opposition.
In line with a realignment of positions following the pre-August 2023 power-sharing agreement, Deputy National Secretary Festus Faunter tendered his resignation. His exit aligns with the party’s constitution, which prohibits a state from having more than one representative in the NWC. With Yilwatda also from Plateau State, Faunter had to vacate his position.
A minor reshuffle followed:
Prof. Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, former National Legal Adviser and a member from the North Central zone, was elected to fill the role of Deputy National Secretary.
Muritala Aliyu Kankai from Katsina State was elected as the new National Legal Adviser.
Both officials were sworn in during the NWC meeting.
