CHAMPIONS ARE BORN: Green House Emerges Supreme, Claims Eagle FM’s ₦200,000 Prize!

The CEO of Eagle FM, Otunba K.K. Kalejaiye (SAN), has made a long-term commitment to support the Command Day Secondary School’s inter-house sports event with a ₦200,000 cash prize every year.

Speaking as the chairman of the 7th inter-house sport event held on 20 February 2025, Otunba Kalejaiye pledged to provide perpetual support to the school.

As part of this commitment, Otunba Kalejaiye announced that Eagle FM will donate ₦200,000 to the winning house in each inter-house sports event, starting from the present event.

The radio station will also provide a free one-hour transmission coverage for the school’s inter-house sports events, as well as donate a giant cup for the event.

The CEO, whose group of companies is located in the neighborhood of the barracks, attributed the sustainability of the station to the barracks’ stable electricity supply, which has enabled the radio station to operate consistently.

He explained that the barracks’ location has provided a significant advantage for the station, allowing it to enjoy a consistent electric supply, without which the company would have faced significant challenges.

The CEO also highlighted the peaceful coexistence between the community and the soldiers, citing the full participation of students in scholastic activities during the Ilese Day event.

He noted that this cooperation plays a crucial role in selecting local government leaders in the community and praised the bonding mechanism between the community and the barracks, praying that it will continue to flourish.

Otunba Kalejaiye expressed pride in the school’s holistic education approach, preparing students for future challenges as leaders, Olympic athletes, or administrators, while commending the school for educating children beyond the classrooms and training them for the challenges that lie ahead.

The chief host, Lt. Col. A.O. Ibrahim, the Commandant of Command Day Secondary School, emphasized the importance of the four domains of learning in his opening speech at the 7th inter-house sports event.

These domains include the Cognitive Domain, which involves acquiring knowledge and thinking skills, the Affective Domain, which is about developing emotions, values, and attitudes, the Relational Domain, which centers on learning with and from interacting with others, and the Psycho-motor Domain, which encourages physical movement and motor skills for mental alertness and body fitness.

Ibrahim highlighted the critical role sports play in holistic development, promoting discipline, resilience, teamwork, and fair play. He emphasized that the event was not just about winning medals, but about pushing boundaries, discovering talents, and building lifelong memories.

Moreover, Major General O.G Onubogu, represented by Brigadier General S.O.J Aremu, echoed Ibrahim’s sentiments and stressed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and families. Onubogu noted that providing quality education for children of military personnel is a top priority, driving the army’s investment in command schools nationwide.

The major announced an inter-command sports competition, bringing together top athletes from various command schools to compete and foster unity, excellence, sportsmanship, and friendship.

He believes nurturing children’s talents will produce future champions representing Nigeria in national and international events.

Other highlights of the event included an appreciation award given to Otunba Kalejaiye as a major contributor to the success of the event.

The march past was colorful, while all sporting activities kept attendees glued and excited, shouting on top of their voices, getting exasperated, agitated, and disappointed until eventually the Green House, also known as the Hippopotamus House, emerged as the winner of the 7th Inter-House sports of the Ijebu-ode Command Day Secondary School Ilese, qualifying for the promised ₦200,000 prize and the giant cup.

Also present at the event were the royal father of the day, HRH Oba Oluremi Owolabi Abayomi, the Elewe of Ilese, Ogun East Ijebu-ode local government chairman Hon. Dare Alebiosu, the Elerunwon of Eruwon, Oba Adebayo Okunbena, Chief Mrs Yetunde Aina, the Iyalode of Erunwon-Ijebu represented.
