If Afro Beat Does Not Blow, You Can Not Win Grammy Awards – Portable

PORTABLE

Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Habeeb Okikiola, Widely known as Portable or Dr Zeh had said that if Afro Beat does not blow, Nigeria Artists can not win grammy awards.

He said this two days after Nigerian Grammy award nominees: Davido, Burna boy, Asake and Ayra starr lost the Best African Music Performance category to South Africa’s Tyla with her song “Water” on Sunday night.

According to him, artistes should go back to afro and call themselves ‘Afronation’.

He explained that the amapiano beat which some Nigerian artists are using doesn’t belong to Nigerians, that it belongs to the South Africans.”

He added that South Africans have won Grammy, so Nigerians should leave them alone.

Portable however concluded by saying “Ti afro o ba blow, e o le gba Grammy” translating to If Afro does not blow, you cannot win the grammy award.
