Mexico-US Trade Breakthrough: Tariffs Paused for 1 Month After Trump Call

Mexico’s president
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and US President Donald Trump have reached a significant agreement. After a productive conversation, they’ve decided to pause US tariffs on Mexico for a month, starting Monday. This move is aimed at allowing time for negotiations on security and trade ¹.
The agreement also includes Mexico deploying 10,000 National Guard members to reinforce its northern border and prevent drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl. In return, the US has committed to working on preventing the trafficking of high-powered weapons to Mexico.
Sheinbaum emphasized the issue of illegal firearms entering Mexico from the US, which criminal groups exploit. She expressed confidence that this month-long pause will yield positive results for both countries.
It’s worth noting that this development doesn’t provide information on the status of planned tariffs against Canada and China, which were also announced due to fentanyl distribution concerns ¹.
