Ogun State Boxing Hall of Fame Returns Saturday, May 9th

In a renewed commitment to grassroots boxing development across the state, the Ogun State Boxing Association has officially announced the return of the Ogun State Boxing Hall of Fame.

The initiative, sponsored by former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Chief Wale Edun, was first launched in 2015 and quickly became a vital platform for discovering and nurturing young boxing talent.

After a brief revival in 2023, the programme is now set for a full return, this time as a quarterly event aimed at strengthening Ogun State’s representation in national boxing competitions.

According to a press statement issued by the Media Officer of the association, Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, past editions of the Hall of Fame have produced medal-winning athletes at national tournaments, underscoring its impact on the sport’s development in the region.

The next edition is scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall of the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja, Abeokuta.

The event will feature eight bouts and will recur every three months, providing consistent opportunities for emerging boxers from all Local Government Areas in Ogun State to showcase their skills.

According to the Secretary of the association, David Osuolale, the primary objective of the Hall of Fame is to identify promising fighters early and create a structured pathway to state and national teams.

The association also expressed gratitude to Edun for his continued support of boxing, describing his contribution as instrumental to the growth of the sport in Ogun State and Nigeria at large.

Osuolale said registration for the Saturday’s event is free at the Alake sports center, Ijeja, calling on all sports enthusiasts and boxers to throng out enmass for the biggest show beginning from 10am.
