The Ogun State chapter of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) has declared its readiness for the 2027 general elections, insisting that the party is the only one free from legal distractions.

The Chairman of the party, Comrade Abayomi Sanyaolu disclosed this at a news conference held at the APM’s Secretariat, Abeokuta, the state capital.

He noted that the drive was informed by recent amendments to the Electoral Act by the National Assembly, as well as the need to provide a credible and inclusive platform for politicians and voters disenchanted with existing political structures.

The APM said it was opening its doors wide to “true sons and daughters” of the State, stressing that the party belongs to all and remains committed to rescuing the state from what it described as political decline and external domination.

He said the State’s rich in political and intellectual heritage, the party referenced iconic figures such as Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, Ernest Shonekan, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, warning that the legacy of leadership associated with the state must not be allowed to erode.

He announced that serving and former members of the National Assembly would be granted automatic tickets, where applicable, to contest the 2027 elections on the APM platform.

Sanyaolu said, the offer also extends to former and serving members of state Houses of Assembly who are willing to align with its vision.

He said the window for political alignment and realignment ahead of 2027, presents a unique opportunity for credible aspirants to join a platform it described as stable, inclusive and free from internal distractions.

The Ogun APM Chairman, expressed confidence that the initiative would significantly alter the political dynamics of the state ahead of the next general elections, positioning the party as a rallying point for reform-minded politicians and voters.

The party also commended its national leadership, particularly the National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, and members of the National Working Committee for making the party more attractive and competitive nationwide.

While speaking further, he welcomed the recent political realignments involving prominent figures, including Bala Mohammed, noting that the developments signalled a broader shift within Nigeria’s opposition space, including members of the Peoples Democratic Party.
