“Abiodun’s Industrialization Drive: Ogun to Get Massive Apparel Industry Soon”

Ogun State is poised to become home to the largest cotton and apparel industry in West Africa, with an impressive capacity to employ around 40,000 people. This exciting development was revealed by Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun during a courtesy visit from Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, and his team last Wednesday 12th February.

The governor shared that the state is planning to establish this massive industry, which will be located in the Special Processing Zone. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to take place soon, marking the beginning of a new era in Ogun State’s industrial landscape.

To facilitate ease of doing business, the state government has strategically co-located the Special Argo-Processing Zone with the Ogun State Agro-cargo and passenger airport. This integrated ecosystem, dubbed an “aerotropolis,” will also feature the largest customs facilities in Nigeria.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that his administration’s primary focus is on creating a conducive business environment, built on public-private partnerships and guided by the Infrastructure, Social Welfare and Well being, Education, Youth Employment, and Agriculture (ISEYA) mantra.

To achieve this vision, the state government is investing in various infrastructure projects, including road construction, affordable housing, healthcare, education, and youth empowerment. Three major roads – Sagamu-Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode-Epe, and Agbara-Lusada-Atan – are being renovated to facilitate easy movement of investors and citizens.

Ogun State is rich in natural resources, including bitumen, limestone, silica, and gold, making it an attractive destination for industries. As one of the six states approved to operate a Special Processing Zone, Ogun State is poised to become a reference point in the country.

With its rich natural resources, strategic location,

and investor-friendly environment, Ogun State is

Poised to become a major player in Nigeria’s industrial landscape.

The state’s proximity to Lagos, Nigeria’s financial capital, provides a significant advantage and governor Abiodun is also working towards making Ogun State an oil-producing state in the near future.

In addition to these developments, the state government is focused on generating power to provide industries and companies with the cheapest source of energy and efforts are also underway to revive the Adire industry and its value chain.

Senator Enoh commended Ogun State for its hospitality to industries and its efforts to encourage industrial growth. He acknowledged the challenges faced by industries but emphasized the enormous advantages that exist in the country.

The senator’s visit was part of an “industry push” initiative aimed at exploring opportunities for government-industry collaboration and partnership which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s eight-point agenda, to prioritize industrialization, digitalization, innovation, and manufacturing.
