The Immediate Past South West Zonal Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Hon. Rasaz Eyiwuawi, has dismissed reports questioning the candidacy of Jimi Adebisi Lawal in Ogun State, describing them as “fake news” and an attempt to cause confusion within the party.
Eyiwuawi said the matter had already been settled by the court, which pronounced Jimi Lawal as the authentic ADC governorship candidate in the state. According to him, any move by the party to go against the court judgement would amount to lawlessness.
Speaking to journalists, the former zonal Chairman, insisted that the party must respect the rule of law and the decision of the judiciary.
“This is definitely a fake news. It’s not possible after court had given a judgement and pronounced JIMI ADEBISI LAWAL as the winner. The party will now go against such ; it simple means the party is lawless,” he stated.
He stressed that the judgement remains binding until set aside by a higher court, and that the party leadership at all levels is duty-bound to abide by it. Eyiwuawi noted that internal disagreements should not be allowed to override legal processes and constitutional provisions.
“As of today, Jimi Lawal remains the authentic ADC candidate in Ogun state and there is nothing anybody can do about that for now than to accept the verdict,” the former South West Zonal Chairman declared.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation and conflicting reports on social media regarding the ADC governorship ticket in Ogun. Party members in the state have been urged to remain calm and focus on mobilization ahead of the next election cycle.
Eyiwuawi further called on members of the public and the media to verify information before publishing, warning that spreading unverified claims could undermine the party’s unity and democratic values. He said the ADC in the South West remains committed to due process and will continue to work with all stakeholders to strengthen the party in Ogun and across the region.
He disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has already published the name of Lawal as the authentic governorship candidate of the party in the State.
